The most versatile 360 camera to create incredible spherical footage. Through an ambitious design process we created a smaller and lighter version of its predecessor fusion. My role was to create initial concepts exploring and defining form factors, lens positioning, display size, mount feature placement, battery door mechanisms, color, material & finish while collaborating with team leaders from engineering, UI, program management and oversea vendors. Furthermore I was responsible for communicating and presenting results and options to the broader design team, VP and CEO while driving final design towards launch. The collaborative design approach resulted in a successful camera launch packed with incredible features and patent achievements.

Sparking innovation

Exploring a wide variety of concepts allowed us to uncover the most impactful and meaningful ideas. My role was to bring those first ideas to the table.

Role

Max is a hybrid camera that can be used in 360 mode or hero mode, where it operates more like a standard GoPro Hero camera. My role as the industrial design lead was to create an iconic gopro product while driving innovation. We innovated from the inside out for a 20% smaller and 25% lighter camera compared to its predecessor fusion.

Form development

Through cross-functional collaboration, we combined performance requirements with innovative feature integration to develop the most compelling solutions.

Driving team efforts

Fostering trust through positive collaboration with interdisciplinary teams was key to the success of Max. This approach ensured seamless teamwork and alignment, driving the project’s overall success.

Color, material & finish

Designing a product that is durable, waterproof, and built to withstand all elements over time set a high standard for developing a successful CMF strategy - not only for Max but also for other products in the GoPro ecosystem.
